With everything I’ve been through
With every broken heart, promise, smile
With every lost love, friend, memory
I try to push it back
Hide it all behind my laughter
When he broke our family
And you stayed with him
I hate you mom, I hate you dad
But yet we stand smiling in our family portrait
Hide it all behind our laughter
When he crushed my heart
Lied to me, promised he’d stay with me
But ran away only a few days later to be with you
“Yeah, Shelbs, we’ll still be friends” (traitor)
Hide it all behind our laughter
When you left us
Crashed your jeep into that tree
We always told you to wear your seatbelt
Now we can only remember the good times
Hide it all behind our laughter
No one ever asks me, though
No one notices me as cry into my pillow
No one tells me that everything is gonna be alright
No one has to, because I
Hide it all behind my laughter

The Man Behind the Screen
Erik winds the film, sets it on the stand.
Theater fills with the oblivious.
Power of entertainment at his hand,
But yet he still remains mysterious.
Up in his tower, he stands all alone.
He watches the silhouettes find their seats.
His clock ticks away, an obnoxious tone.
A new movie plays as his night repeats.
He remains invisible to the blind;
All they see is what’s in front of their eyes.
He is the shadow that follows behind,
Doesn’t exist when the sun’s in the sky.
Without him, movies wouldn’t hit the screen,
But the public is blind to the unseen.
