Idiocracy? I Think So.

So, I've noticed a drastic decline in the amount of open lanes in superstores, i.e. Wal-Mart and Target. Why is it that when they design and build the store they install 20+ check-out lanes, but when it actually comes time to check-out, even in their busiest hours, there are maybe 5 lanes open, including the 20 items or less lane. Although the self check-out lanes are there, they're always packed, forcing the rest of the customers to go through the 5 or less open lanes.

Just last Saturday I was at a Wal-Mart picking up a card and a bottled water and I had to stand in line for almost 30 minutes because they had 3 lanes open. 3! All 3 of them curling out into the main aisle causing traffic backup. And God forbid they get off their lazy asses and open (gasp!) another lane or 2. I mean seriously, how ignorant do you have to be to see people complaining in line about the wait and still not do a damn thing about it?

Oh, and that's just on a regular day. On Black Friday, maybe one of the darkest days for retail stores, they had (you guessed it) a whole 5 lanes open. The lines literally wrapped around the entire store! Why would you not open as many lanes as possible on such a horrible day? I don't get it, they have all of those lanes and they don't even use half of them. What a waste. But what can I say? Welcome to America, where stupidity is widely accepted and promoted. I can't wait to get the hell out of this God forsaken country.
